Celebrating Ramadan at Mara Nursery!

Celebrating Ramadan at Mara Nursery!

On Friday, we were delighted to welcome one of our amazing parents to the nursery to talk to the children about Ramadan!

Katie explained that Ramadan is a very important and special time for Muslims. She told us that they fast from sunrise to sunset, which means they do not eat or drink during the day. She explained that fasting helps people to practise patience, be thankful and think about others.

We talked about how Muslims pray more often during Ramadan and may visit the mosque, which is a special place of worship. The children enjoyed listening and asking questions about what happens there. Katie also told us about how families come together in the evening to break their fast.

The children tried tasting dates, which are often eaten to break the fast. It was lovely to see everyone trying something new and sharing their thoughts.

We also learned about the importance of charity during Ramadan. Katie explained that charity means helping others by giving money, food or support to people who may need it. We talked about how we can show kindness and help others in nursery too.

Finally, we learned about Eid, the celebration at the end of Ramadan. Katie and the girls told us about wearing special clothes, spending time with family and friends, giving gifts and enjoying delicious food together.

A big thank you to Katie and her daughters for helping us learn about Ramadan. We are so grateful for your time and for sharing your experiences with us
